Procrastination Part II

OK, so it's a rainy day.... good for staying inside and getting some ignored chores done. And I have done exactly that! But then I took a break to take the dogs out and look what I found!!!

A Pink Lady Slipper Orchid. It is the official State of New Hampshire Wildflower. These are seen in NH in woodland settings... they are very delicate and do not survive transplanting. Because of this and the desire by many to pick them, they are fairly rare. Locals will even discourge you from doing anything more than LOOKING at them. Growing up my grammie used to take me walking through the woods on their farm to see how many Lady Slippers we could see. We had so much fun on our walks.... such wonderful memories! So, upon buying our home in 2004 you can imagine how pleased I was to discover I now have "my own" lady slippers to admire. This year we even have a white one!

OK, between photo taking and posting here I've put off the chores long enough.....

Procrastination....

I have to confess I'm the queen of procrastination.... it doesn't matter if it's household chores, paying bills, making phone calls, returning emails or making teddy bears.... I will find an excuse to put it off! The ONLY THING I don't have this problem with is eating CHOCOLATE!

So, although I have bears and such waiting to be made I couldn't help but spend yet another day in my garden. It's supposed to rain for the next 5 days so I wanted to get my new plants in the ground quick. Then I figure I can spend the next 5 days getting some real work done! HA!

Thought I'd share a few photos from my garden. Lilacs are one of my favorites! It's a shame they aren't in bloom longer.

And I LOVE daisies... some women love roses, iris, orchids.... not me... give me plain old daisies... yellow or white, I'm not fussy!

I planted Allium bulbs last fall for the first time.... put them in upside down! They didn't seem to care though! They are on their way up and starting to bloom.

I've grown to like hosta... probably because they are easy and it takes a lot to kill them! I've planted 4 new varieties this week and now can't wait until next year when they'll come up nice and full! I'm an instant gratification gardener.... having to wait for perennials to "mature" a year or two is SO frustrating! Can a procrastinator crave instant gratifacation? Hmmmm....

I must go have a bite of chocolate and ponder that a while!

I'm praying for the weather forecast to be right.... I MUST stay in and get some sewing done! Play time is over!!

"There is a heaven on earth..... it's in my garden!"

Spring Fever

Here it is, Friday already and I'm already behind in my once a week post here! I've had spring fever... been outside gardening! Even have a Ruby Throated Hummingbird keeping me company.

Planted a new Weeping Crab Apple tree and it's doing beautifully!

The Pansies are almost gone by now as it's been very hot here in New England but here's a photo of my favorite. Such a yummy color!

Oh, and then there is the bear... this isn't a very clear shot but just wanted you to believe me when I said we have resident bears! She's a lazy one... brought that feeder right down to her level, had a sit and a feast! Silly bear.

This weekend we're off to our cabin in Northern Maine... up in the woods... we almost always see moose and deer. The dogs love it up there... all those neat scents and weird sounds in the night! They'll come home exhausted on Monday (so will we!).

Untill then... have a great and safe Memorial Day weekend!

Welcome to the Back Roads!

It's spring here in New England... a time for all things fresh and new. That includes my new blog! Not sure where this is going to take me yet (other than away from bear making!) but I'm ready for an adventure! It is my intent to keep my collectors, family and friends up to date on the latest teddy bear creations in my studio, my progress in plans for the bear shows I'm promoting and tales from my personal life... a new garden is in my plans for this summer and the dogs are going to learn some basic agility! Lots of pictures will be shared, that's a promise!

I plan to post once a week unless I have something that just can't wait! So be sure to check back often! Expect the look and feel of my blog to change as I learn how to 'tweak' things. I can be dangerous with an ounce of knowledge!

Until next time....
Big Bear Hugs,
Daphne
